Madame Butterfly

Martha Stewart has done it again! This amazing look is a DIY Halloween costume that I'm swooning over....I kind of want to make a simpler version with less butterflies to wear as a headband every day.

Love/Hate Tattoos

I love tattoos. A simple statement, but one which I have to qualify quite a bit. I love tattoos on other people, I love seeing them, and hearing their stories, I even love thinking about getting a tattoo myself. However, I also really hate tattoos because so many are SO BAD! Without fail, whenever I see someone rocking a tattoo whose design I've been daydreaming about, I'm struck by how awful it looks when wrought in flesh. This picture really sums up all of my issues with tattooing.

I have always loved Robert Frost, I love the poem 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening', and its definitely something that I have fantasized about getting tattooed. I even love the idea of using handwriting....but seeing it on this persons forearm it just looks silly and big and amateurish...imagine having to look at that on your 80th birthday!

However, by that same token I do have to show you a tattoo I think is done beautifully and uniquely and which I am kind of lusting over:

How amazing would it be to have Klimt's 'The Kiss' on your ribcage. This tattoo is beautiful, and most importantly placed wonderfully and done at a perfect scale. Sigh....this seems like the type of tattoo you have to wait a year for a great artist to do, the kind of piece you can show off forever....

Alright and now I'm conflicted all over again!

Wet Paint!

Every year I participate in a charity fundraiser for the Newport Art Museum called Wet Paint. Artists all around Newport go out one Saturday, make some artwork, and then on Sunday auction it off to benefit the museum. This year I made three paintings for the auction (I started a few weeks before) which were sold for $50, $55, and $60 respectively:

Unfortunately none of my paintings were bid up high enough during the silent auction to merit their going on the the tent for the exciting live auction, but there is always next year!

My Mom is Gorgeous

My mom has recently been doing this extremely healthy no alcohol, no sugar, no saturated fat diet, and she looks simply radiant. See the proof:

I love, love, love, the subtle contrast between her robe and the wall color, especially against that pop of red lipstick!

She has the most beautiful profile (although she always denies it).

Happy and gorgeous in bright, hippie-inspired colors!

Rainbows and Skulls...I swoon!

I have a ridiculous insane love of things that are organized in ROYGBIV order (aka rainbow). It definitely connects to my love of ombre, I just love when things change by a gradual gradation of shades. You should see the ecstasy that accompanies any visit to Dylan's Candy bars array of jelly beans. Seriously, during my frantic pre-Irene shopping I stopped and bought these just because they were arranged in a semblance of rainbow order:

I fell in love with this image because it captures both my love of rainbow organization and my love of the creepy/grotesque/taxidermy-esque.

I'm not exactly sure what these are supposed to be, my best guess is decorative candles?

Day to Night- Ombre Photography?

In keeping with my recent ombre obsession, check out these really cool images by photographer Stephen Wilkes - they go from day to night in a single frame!

I really want one of these blown up huge for an apartment wall...especially this one:
